Ah Guang Lamb Pot 阿广羊腩煲 @ SS2, P.J
When I first tried Taisho Lamb Pot in Kepong during MCO, (circa end 2020, via delivery), it quite knocked my socks off. Taisho was deemed a pioneer of lamb pot restaurant and it has been receiving positive responses from the lamb pot lovers for years, the massive crowd especially on weekends is the hard evidence of their popularity.
Fast forward three years, there are more lamb pot restaurants sprouting up, to be precise, Macau and Guangzhou style lamb pot.
Since Sam not a fan of hotpot, hubby and I had a lunch date at Ah Guang Lamb Pot (AGLP) at SS2 while she had outing with her friend at 1U. The restaurant was quite deserted during our visit, obviously lamb pot is more suitable for dinner, haha! But the restaurant’s air-conditioner was blasting at full speed, so we’ve got the comfort level covered while enjoying the pipping hot lamb pot.
Two type of dipping sauce – the must have fermented bean curd (Fu Yu) sauce and the green spicy sauce.
Appetizer (RM3.00)
Very delicious pickled radish and green papaya, great to offset the richness of the dish.
There are three main options of claypot dish in the menu – Signature Lamb Pot (Small – RM59.90/Big – RM119.80), Spicy Mala Lamb Pot (Small – RM69.90/Big – RM139.80) and Hainanese Coconut Village Chicken Pot (RM69.90 – for 2-3pax). There are special member discount and reward for all items in the menu, check out HERE if you’re interested.
Like most of the hotpot restaurant, AGLP offer wide variety of ingredients to be added into the hotpot. Other than the usual sliced meat, seafood, meatballs (homemade), vegetables, noodles and bean curd sheets, the menu also features different cut of Australian lamb such as lamb fore shank (RM50.90), lamb big bone (RM23.90), lamb neck (RM19.90), lamb tripe (RM20.90) and lamb feet (RM14.90). There are a short list of boss recommended dishes such as Sizzling Pork Tongue Pot (RM21.90), Guangzhou Crispy Fried Lamb Feet (RM16.90), Fried Pig Intestine (RM24.90), Fried Iberico Bacon Luncheon Meat (RM21.90) and Braised Chicken Feet (RM16.90)
Signature Lamb Pot (Small – RM59.90)
Those were the default ingredients for the lamb pot – chunks of lamb belly, radish, dried bean curd sticks, vegetables, mushrooms and aromatics (ginger, garlic, Chinese parsley and spring onion).
The live cooking was performed on our table, started with sauteed the aromatics, add in other ingredients and cooking wine for a flambe, then followed by pouring in the soup base.
The broth was intensely flavoured from hours of boiling the lamb belly and Chinese herbs and spices. It was rich and umami laden. The meat wasn’t super tender so there’s some bite to it. Dip the meat with the fermented bean sauce that gives it a deeper flavour. The radish was my favourite ingredient as it absorbed the tasty flavour from the broth. Be warned that the soup can be slightly salty to the end of the meal (it’s quite normal for hotpot), so one may drink the soup before more ingredients are added into the hotpot. Soup is refillable.
Sliced Pork Shoulder (RM16.90)
Treasure Meatballs (RM28.90) – pork, cuttlefish and prawn balls.
Fried Bean Curd Sheet (RM7.90)
Verdict: All things considered, our dining experience at AGLP was relatively pleasant, with decent food and prompt service (lunch hour). Lamb pot undoubtedly a type of heavy flavoured food, if you’re not fond of such strong flavour food, this might not ideal option.

The lamb pot looks very pleasurable to lovers of lamb, of course (which I’m not). By the way, is it common for hotpot places to serve their meats/meatballs in frozen state?
Kris, the chance of getting meats/meatballs in frozen state during hotpot session is half half. =.=”
that doesn’t sound very convincing. hahaha
KY, why you said so?
