Chin Swee Vegetarian Cuisine @ Chin Swee Caves Temple, Genting Highlands

My brother came back from Singapore for holidays and we had a short 2 days 1 night belated reunion gathering at Genting Highlands on last week because he couldn’t come back during Chinese New Year.

Together with my elder sister’s family and my mom, we had lunch first at Chin Swee Caves Temple since my other two siblings would be late to arrive. Chin Swee Vegetarian Cuisine is nestled in the Chin Swee Caves Temple which is about 5 – 10 minutes’ drive from the peak of Resorts World Genting. The dining area is spacious and receives ample of sunlight from the large windows. The space is furnished with round tables and draped chairs and adequately decorated with lovely flower arrangements.

The restaurant has a large menu that sufficiently filled with enough choices ranging from vegetables, bean curd, mock meat, vegan prawn, vegan fish, soup, Dim Sum, desserts, rice and noodle dishes and even Naan and Roti Canai. Price is on high side, for example, vegetables dishes priced from RM28.90 – RM45.90, Dim Sum priced from RM13.80 – RM15.80, Naan and Roti Canai served with Dhal Curry priced at RM20.90, as well as Chinese Tea priced from RM5.50 – RM7.50/pax.

House Special Claypot Rice (RM38.90)

Served pipping hot in a claypot (but the rice wasn’t cooked in the claypot according to mom because it didn’t have the burnt rice on the bottom), there were peanuts, corn kernels, cabbage and some veggies. The rice was flavoured by a delicious soy sauce mixture which was poured when served on our table.

Hong Kong Style Fried Noodles (RM21.90)

Flavour was good, however the portion was merely for one pax, would have been better if there’s more.

Four Heaven King (RM45.90)

Nicely executed with the long beans, Petai (stinky beans), brinjal and lady’s finger packed a toothsome savoury flavour and hit the palate with a pleasant spicy kick.

Sweet & Sour Abalone Mushroom (RM40.90)

The vegetarian version of Ku Lou Yoke. Endowed with the sprightliness of an accompanying sliced capsicums, tomatoes and pineapple, the crunchy fried abalone mushrooms coated with sticky sweet and sour sauce passed the marking in flavour department. The slightly thick batter of the mushrooms probably the only thing I didn’t fancy.

Prawns with Crispy Oatmeal (RM40.90)

The only mock meat dish we ordered that day to accommodate the kid’s preference. The vegan prawn bite was just right as was the consistency on the tongue, and it has a faint flavor of the real thing. The oats were crunchy and savoury, complemented the “prawn”s beautifully.

Verdict: The food was satisfyingly well seasoned which was above my expectation. However the portion of the food is fairly small and less compatible to the price.

  • I can’t understandy why but it’s usually more expensive when eating vegetarian dishes even when they’re made up of vegetables only. O_o The four heavenly king dish would certainly cost a lot less than RM45 at the usual dai chow place for that small a portion.

  • Kris, same query here, vegetarian meal always more expensive. o.O
