National Elephant Conservation Centre @ Kuala Gandah, Pahang
Warning: This is a photo laden (with many selfie photos) post, continue if you don’t mind. I will also let my photos tell you the story because I really feel unmotivated to write which is obviously can be seen by the recent lack of update of my blog. ●︿●
National Elephant Conservation Centre is an elephant sanctuary located in Temerloh, Pahang, within the Krau Wildlife Reserve. It is managed by Department of Wildlife and National Parks. This sanctuary responsible to track, capture and relocate wild elephants whose habitats have been damaged by development to protected areas such as national parks. In addition, the centre also aims to promote public awareness of the threats, pressures and plight of elephants in Malaysia, support research on elephant relocation and conservation and as a sanctuary for tame and wild elephants in need of treatment. It’s also aims to educate the public about the importance of habitat and environmental preservation.
Visitors have to fill in these form before entering the sanctuary.
It’s free admission but you may contribute a donation to help with rehabilitation of the elephants and all the expenses to maintain the sanctuary.
The lobby.
Elephant skull and some fun facts about elephant on display.
Visitors can watch a twenty five-minutes documentary video in the auditorium.
Light food and beverages are available in the sanctuary, as well as some souvenir stalls.
There are various interesting activities that can be done here includes feeding the elephants, watch elephant show and elephant bathing.
The elephant bathing was cancelled that day due to the river water level.
Feeding the elephant – Food (sugarcanes) can be purchased here and offer to these gentle giants. I could feel their rough skin when I fed them and they were very gentle and delicately took the food from my hand with their trunks. It’s definitely a profound connection with these magnificent creatures.
Oh my god! Does she look adorable with the “green crown”? (^ω^)
One selfie with the cutie. (✿◠‿◠)
Elephants were marching to the stage for the performance.
Elephants performed tricks to showcase their exceptional abilities and intelligence, as well as the bonding between the elephants and mahouts.
How about some splashing time!
Feeding time after the performance.
We also visited the Gallery of Tengku Hassanal Wildlife Reserve which is also nestled in the sanctuary.
Verdict: Elephant is one of my favourite animals and this activity certainly a terrific experience to me as we got up close and personal with them, as well as know more about these giant creatures.

What a delightful post! I didn’t even know about this elephant conservation centre. You know what, the Baby Elephant Walk song immediately came to my head. Now I can’t stop hearing it. LOL! When I was a little girl, I was taken for an elephant ride. Too bad my parents did not have a camera or else that would be a good momento.
PH, I don’t think I had a elephant ride before but now when I grown up I know that elephant riding is unethical and harmful to the animal. 🙁
