Nostalgia Manis @ Medan Selera Foo Keong, Taman Kepong
Weekend is my kitchen off day and we will dine out for brunch and dinner.
Two weeks ago, I felt so lazy to move my butt after my morning jog, most probably caused by the sweltering heat that has been continuing for weeks. All I wanted is to stay in bed or on the couch, the little genius of me, went and command my hubby to “tapau” the food that intrigued my interest in Instagram. Lo and behold, I ended up with lots of delicious food on my dining table after my hubby done all the “logistics”. (^_-)v
Nestled in a food court at Taman Kepong which housed several food stalls such as Nasi Lemak, Sekinchan Pork Noodles and Pan Mee, Nostalgia Manis that offers pork free Malay home cooked food is quite a rare sight here. Their menu is not really extensive but the food isn’t some thing common that you’ll find in common Malay stalls in KL and Selangor, especially the Nasi Teloq Tabur and Mee Java.
Nasi Teloq Tabur (Mix – RM9.00)
Couldn’t find any info online related to this Malay delicacy. (-‸ლ) But basically, this is deep fried egg floss cooked with meat (I opted for beef + chicken) and sambal. It had a nice eggy flavour and the spiciness was beautifully nuanced it’s addictive, went well with white rice. There are option of chicken (RM7.00), Beef (RM8.00) & Seafood (RM15.00)
Mee Sengkek (RM5.00)
Aka Mee Goreng Mamak, as a big fan of it, I couldn’t resist the temptation when I saw it in their menu.
Weekend is my only “cheat days” to let me eat whatever my heart desires and I certainly got off on the right foot with this fried noodles ala Mamak style. The texture of the yellow noodles was just right, not too soft or under-cooked. There was a lovely breath of Wok Hei and the simplicity prevails in the form of the addictiveness offered by the delicious sambal as well as the combination of ingredients of egg, chicken and fried shallots.
Mee Java (Mix – RM9.00)
Nostalgia Manis version of Mee Java was decent completed with all the trappings such as hard boiled egg, fried tofu, meat (we opted for beef + chicken) and fried shallots. The sweet potato gravy was thick and creamy, with a mild spiciness. A squeeze of lime provided a burst of acidity to cut through the richness.
Tauhu Begedil (RM12.00/6pcs)
Delightfully coated with egg and deep fried to a perfection golden brown, the tofu puffs were stuffed with a mixture of potato and meat filling, served with sweet soy sauce (kicap manis) dipping. It was rather welcoming on the palate but I think the filling could have done with more seasoning.
Pisang Goreng (RM2.00/5pcs) & Lekor Ori Terengganu (RM2.00/5pcs)
Crunchy on the outside and sweet and creamy banana on the inside, a classic Malaysian afternoon tea snack.
The Lekor was nothing out of nothing out of the ordinary but I like the size which is much more bigger that the usual one we had.
Aiskrim Malaya – Lychee, Grape & Asam Boi (RM1.00)
Last but no least, Malaysia style ice lollies to quench the thirst and battle the scorching weather.
♥Verdict: If you’re a spicy Malay food lover, this place is well worth checking out to satisfy your craving. They are available for delivery in AA & HERE.
