Ramen Bari-Uma @ 1 Mont Kiara

This shoplot in 1 Mont Kiara had been occupied by three different Ramen restaurants since 2015 till recently, which I’ve shared before. (Read them HERE & HERE)

Ramen Bari-Uma is the latest tenant and as you can see, there’s not much changes on the interior of the restaurant. Seating is arranged on one side and the kitchen is on another side.

There are tables outside the restaurant at the walkway.

The menu features Tonkotsu Shoyu and Tori Paitan Ramen, stone bowl rice, appetizers and snacks like Gyoza, salad, Edamame, ala carte grilled Chashu, grilled Salmon, Karaage in several flavours, Yakitori, ice cream, teas, soft drinks, Japanese beer and Sake.

Ajitama-Uma (RM30.90)

Cooked to perfection noodles with al-dente texture was submerged in rich and luscious  pork flavoured Shoyu soup, topped with a piece of grilled Chashu and Ajitama (soy sauce flavoured egg), bamboo shoots and chopped spring onions.

The broth was intensely flavoured and carries a good umami note with a strong collagen-filled textured. The consistency of the broth is the thickest that I’ve tried and to be honest, it was a tad too stodgy to my liking.  (>_<)

Slightly charred on the edges, the Chashu was adequately thick yet tender with a little more fat to meat ratio.

The Ajitama was excellently done.

The Ramen comes with options of without Ajitama, with seaweed or add-on toppings such as corn and mixed vegetables.

Kara Tama-Uma (RM32.90)

With the same pork flavoured Shoyu soup base, the extra heat was a welcome relief to cut down the richness of the broth. The Ramen also came with grilled Chashu, Ajitama, bamboo shoots and chopped spring onions.

Other options of broth included pork flavoured garlic Shoyu spicy soup, pork flavoured  Shoyu LIGHT soup and chicken flavoured soup (Tori Paitan).

Ishiyaki Chaofan Salmon (RM19.90)

Served in a heated stone bowl, Sam’s stone cooked Salmon fried rice was nothing to shout about. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Verdict: Hubby and I delighted in the flavour of the Tonkotsu broth but it was too thick to be fully enjoyed, perhaps I can give Ramen Bari-Uma a second chance to try out the light soup. Should I?

  • My brother and I have been to the one at Jaya Shopping Center, Section 14. We love the ramen there. But I don’t see this branch listed above, so maybe it has closed down. The last time we were there, the shopping mall was deserted.

  • Maybe this third one is the charm…and it’s a stayer! 😉 I had this way back in 2017 (in Pavilion) and thought it was good (many ramen lovers do like a broth that’s very intense in flavour).

  • Kris, I do like intensely flavour Tonkotsu soup but this version is way too thick for my liking, made me thought I was drinking a liquidized peanut butter jam. >_<
