Chuup @ Damansara Jaya

Chuup nestled at Damansara Jaya near Atria Shopping Gallery is known to be a popular choice for porcine lovers for its pork dishes offerings. One can expect some home-cooked quality dishes such as Hainanese pork chop, Grandma’s Pork Chop, Aglio-Olio with Serai as well as street delights like Nyonya Curry Mee, Prawn Mee, Chicken Chop, Yam Cake and Popiah.

The restaurant in narrow long shape is divided into two sections, the air-conditioned section and the outdoor smoking section.

The setting gave me a very homey feel with tables made from recycled woods, colourful patchwork cushions, mix and match chairs, exposed bricks wall, white tiled wall as well as the beautiful turquoise wall. Vintage ornaments, potted plants and ambient lighting completed the captivating interior.

Teh Tarik (RM5.00)

Grandma’s Pork Chuup (RM19.90)

One of their signature pork chop which comes with a shallow fried pork loin served with potato carrot ragout and egg spinach. Two slabs of sizeable pork chop with slightly charred fat on the edges, beautifully pan fried to a tender finish. The accompanied potato carrot ragout and egg spinach were mild in flavour, the whole dish showcased the bold flavor of the pork brilliantly.

Deep Fried Pork Chop (RM19.90)

Features deep fried marinated pork loin with homemade Hainanese tangy sauce, sweet potato fries and salad. Portion was generous, two pieces lightly battered pork loin deep fried to perfection with golden brown and crispy outer. The meat was pounded rendering a slightly thin thickness and a decent tender texture. The tangy sweet ketchup-based sauce concoction went well with the pork chop and the sweet potato fries definitely a welcoming substitute of the normal fries.

Aglio-Olio with Serai (RM12.90)

We got this Aglio-Olio for Sam, the avid pasta lover. This is not the ordinary Aglio-Olio but with a local twist of adding bits of sauteed Serai (lemongrass) and onion. Tossed in garlic infused olive oil, it had a delightful herbaceous aroma that provide extra zing to the pasta dish. Add on pork or chicken strips (RM15.90) for a more wholesome meal.

Verdict: Food was above average and I certainly don’t mind make a revisit to try out other dishes in the menu.
