Happy Family Steamboat @ Bandar Menjalara, Kepong
Updated @ March 2019: Rebranded.
Hey, how’s your Chinese New Year holidays so far? I went back to work today (Hoi Gong), too early? No no, since both hubby and myself are local, we have no kampung to balik, so we just follow the Hoi Gong date set by our company (he back to work yesterday which is Chor 3 :P).
My Hoi Gong post for my blog today is my current favourite steamboat place which is the latest addition to Kepong’s steamboat heaven.
Situated in the heavily populated area of Bandar Menjalara, Happy Family Steamboat boasts a comfortable setting equipped with air-conditioners. The interior is simple and decorated with a beautiful painting themed ancient China peoples having steamboat meal. There are outdoor seating on both the walkway as well as the side of the restaurant.
Chili Sauce (this one packs a nice fiery punch), sweet sauce and green chili sauce.
Apart from the usual chili dipping and soy sauce, one of the pull factor that manage to induce repeat visits to Happy Family Steamboat is this jar of fried onion (which I believe is house made). It is crispy and fragrant and utterly addictive, my almighty concoction is fried onion + red chili sauce + soy sauce, which goes well with the steamboat ingredients.
Pork Bone Soup Base (RM19.80 / pot)
The milky soup base comes with big pork bone, white radish slices, corn, Chinese cabbage and bean curd sheets. The flavour is good and consistent on our several visits, although not the most intense I’ve tried (the best still this one) but definitely a satisfying pork bone soup, without feeling thirsty after eating.
Steamboat Ingredients Set (RM20.80/pax, minimum 2 pax)
Portion wise, the set comes with usual items of assorted meat balls, dumplings, prawns, bean curd sheets, quail eggs, enoki mushrooms, vegetables, noodles and eggs.
They are running a promotion of ordering 3 sets and get 1 set FOC now.
Various of sliced meat, seafood, mushrooms, meat balls, vegetables, bean curd and noodles are available to be ordered ala carte. There are also stir fried dishes in the menu.
Verdict: No hesitation in recommending this place. If you like steamboat and Happy Family Steamboat definitely well worth checking out!
