Restoran Soon Hock @ Desa Aman, Sungai Buloh
Restoran Soon Hock is a neighbourhood “Dai Chow” restaurant that situated at Desa Aman, Sungai Buloh. We discovered this place when we were loitering around that area on Sunday evening. Well hidden amongst the residential houses, Restoran Soon Hock with its brightly lit signboard, cars parked both side of the road and the full house scene ignited my curiosity to check this place out.
It was peak hour during dinner time and the restaurant was fully occupied. We stood for 10 minutes beside a table to wait for the diners finished their food, this was to “chuup”/”reserve” our seat. =.=” There was another 30-40 minutes of waiting before the first dish served on our table.
This fish dish is their sough-after dish as you can see it ordered on almost every table. The butterflied Tilapia fish was steamed in a big round shape tray with abundance of ingredients such as minced ginger, chopped garlic, Shiitake mushrooms, wood ear fungus, bean curd, bean curd sheet, bean curd puffs and dried lily flowers (金针花). The fish was fresh and free of any muddy taste. It was steamed perfectly with tender flesh and drenched in a savoury sweet gravy that went well with both fish and rice. The steamed fish also perfumed with handful of spring onion and coriander.
Sizzling Japanese Tofu
A very common “Dai Chow” dish of Japanese tofu discs served on hot iron cast plates with savoury brown gravy. There was a layer of omelet on the bottom and the gravy was prepared with generous amount of minced pork, onion and sliced mushrooms.
Stir Fried Kangkung
Verdict: Since there was only 3 of us, we couldn’t order much but the steamed fish dish definitely worth a go. I’ve read reviews of their other dishes such as curry chicken bun, crispy pork and paku pakis are quite commendable, a revisit seem like expectable. 🙂
