Ume Tei Japanese Restaurant @ Mytown Shopping Centre

Moved from it’s previous location at Amcorp Mall, P.J, Ume Tei Japanese Restaurant is now nestled in one of the most Instagrammable book stores in Klang Valley – BookXcess, MyTown Shopping Center.

The long shape dining area has a clean and pleasant setting, partnered with light wooden furniture.

The large menu features a list of delectable Japanese food and extensive selection of set meals at a very (unbelievably) affordable price range.

Tori Karaage Set (RM28.00 + additional Sashimi – RM2.00)

The set meal comprised the mains (in this case, the Japanese fried chicken), rice (white rice or garlic fried rice), pickles, side dishes, miso soup and dessert (fruit is stated in the menu).  All set came with similar items of rice, side dishes, pickles, miso soup and dessert.

The Japanese fried chicken arrived pipping hot to my table and there are 5 sizeable pieces, really nothing to complaint for the price charged. They were perfectly fried with crunchy skin and succulent flavourful meat.

For this Karaage set, a rock bottom add-on is offered. With only RM2, you’ll get a plate of mixed Sashimi.  These were what I got that day, 5 pieces of fresh and thick cut Sashimi – Salmon, Maguro and Butterfish.

Ebi Fried Set (RM35.00)

Kaki Fried Set (RM38.00)

It’s safe to say that fried food is the kitchen’s forte, both fried prawns and fried oyster were well executed. The ingredients remained moist and tender on while the skin was adequately battered and deep fried till beautifully crunchy without any greasiness.

Goya Set (RM28.00)

Goya” means bitter melon in Okinawa dialect and this set featured a bitter melon stir fry with a savoury-sweet sauce. I would say the sauce complemented the bitter melon brilliantly, it didn’t entirely masked the bitterness but converted the dish into a rather palatable combination of flavours.

Also came with the set were several pieces of fried fish fillet.

Shake Atama Yaki Set (RM35.00)

It’s a huge piece of grilled Salmon fish head!

Umezen (RM40.00)

This was what I meant about the fully justified food portion and price. Although not the whole Unagi was given but for RM40, you’ll have Unagi rice, mixed Tempura and other side dishes, what more could you ask for?

Verdict: Food was above average and the unbeatable wallet friendly price tags. I only wish Ume Tei is nearer to me. ~>_<~

  • Oh, I’m very attracted to the very wallet-friendly prices…..wasn’t aware of its existence inside a BookXcess (as I’ve not been to a book store for a long time). All the 6 sets (big family makan? ;D) you showcased look satisfying with good portions. The place deserves a visit….and luckily it’s near me (sorry it isn’t near you) >_< P/S: I misread goya as gyoza and thought where's the gyoza lah….lol!

  • I’ve still yet to step foot into MyTown.. :/

  • Kris, I’m quite surprise that you’re not aware of the existence of this restaurant but it’s not too late to know too. Hope you can visit it asap and let me know if the food suit your/your family taste bud.
Oh, this was a friend’s birthday gathering and this was the birthday girl’s option to have the gathering here as she has been wanted to try this place for quite some time but very far for her (she stays Kepong too :P).
