Bistro Fiore @ Plaza Damas, Sri Hartamas
This little restaurant reminds me of the Japanese TV series – Midnight Diner (深夜食堂, Shinya shokudō). The main cooking station is helmed by the Japanese boss (I assume), surrounded by counter seats which allowed patrons to interact with him. By the way, this was the birthday dinner treat that I mentioned in THIS post.
Located at a rather hidden location in Plaza Damas (not facing the main street, at the back of the building), Bistro Biore serves Italian food with Japanese influences and elements. There aren’t many seating on the ground floor because part of the space is occupied by the open kitchen, but luckily the dining area on the first floor is much bigger.
The decently extensive menu with good selection for every categories of dishes. Price is on the high side and you’ll understand why I say so later when you see the food portion. (^_^;)
Pork & Cabbage Omelette (RM28.00)
It’s Okonomiyaki, minus the batter and presented in roll form. The omelette was soft and creamy, generously topped with sweet sauce, mayonnaise, bonito flakes and chopped spring onion to elevate the delicious-ness.
Japanese Clam Spaghetti (RM35.00)
For the price charged, I would have hoped for bigger portion – both pasta and clams. Cooked with garlic butter and soy sauce, the flavour could have been better with more seasonings, it was a bit bland tasting for my liking.
Mentaiko Butter Rice (RM18.00)
I will not order this if I knew the portion to be such tiny. 囧 One small chunk of Mentaiko (with thickness approximately 1cm) and a small piece of butter topped on a small bowl of rice, with sprinkles of some garnish. Both Mentaiko and butter weren’t flavour the rice sufficiently rendering another bland tasting dish. =_=”
Kanagawa Hun Thon Rice (RM40.00)
Tomato fried rice blanketed with moist scrambled egg, crowned with fried fish fillet and generous amount of ketchup and cream sauce. Although the fried fish was still lacking some seasoning, the tangy fried rice and the sauces had made up for the overall flavour.
Potato Salad with Seasoned Egg (RM16.00)
A palatable rendition in terms of flavour and texture.
Ginger Marinated Fried Chicken (RM27.00)
The freshly fried Chicken Karaage was quite enjoyable with crunchy skin and succulent meat.
Crab Cream Croquette (RM12.00) & Minced Pork Croquette (RM12.00) & Vegetable & Potato Croquette (RM6.00)
Deep Fried Oyster (RM45.00)
Both fried stuffs were just moderate. The flavour was rather welcoming but still lie below expectation.
Fried Fish Cake (RM18.00)
This fried fish cake seem like a sough-after dish as we could see it ordered on most of the tables but to our dismay, we have a lot more better options at many fish ball noodle or Siew Chow stalls. T.T
Verdict: Obviously, this was somewhat an underwhelming dinner. (・へ・) The portion and flavours of the food here did not meet my expectation for the price paid.

Appreciate the frank reviews from you
Anonymous, you’re most welcome. 🙂
What a disappointment! But at least you tried and now you know 🙂
PH, never try never know~~~ =.=”
I concur with your review. This place become viral a while back and until now, ppl are still lining up to dine here. A better bet would be Sai Sai which is owned by a Japanese lady and helped by her daughter. Sai Sai is located at the alley just behind Bisto Fiore.
Anonymous, it’s true, I saw a few groups of customer queued to dine in that evening. Checked out Sai Sai’s reviews online, the price and food portion seem quite similar, hehe 😛
Actually, the prices on their own seem reasonable…but looking at the portions and type of not that ingredients you got (like the amount of clams, mentaiko, karaage & oysters)….it’s not! >.< I was surprised to see fish cake on the menu which is neither Japanese or Italian (lol)…and yes,the best place to have this is from fish ball noodle specialists.
Kris, IKR! Luckily we ordered rice and noodle dishes, or else we would have needed to go for second round of dinner, haha!
wah got Japanese on menu sure legit.
KY, the food very mediocre and did not impressive at all. 🙁
