Japanese Kitchen Stadium 5031 @ Menara Sunway Visio, Cheras
If you enjoy the fun of cooking your own food in a restaurant, there are many choices of cook-it-yourself restaurants in Malaysia, from the most common steamboat or hot pot, to Korean BBQ, Japanese Yakiniku, Thai Mookata, and even DIY pancakes. But DIY Okonomiyaki that I’m going to share with you all today definitely first time for many of you (including yours truly).
Okonomiyaki, is a Japanese pancake made with a base of flour and eggs, filled with chopped cabbage and a variety of toppings. The pancake is finished with a coat of Okonomiyaki sauce and drizzles of mayonnaise, then garnished with dried seaweed and bonito flakes.
Japanese Kitchen Stadium 5031, a Japanese buffet restaurant that offers patrons a hands on experience to cook your own Okonomiyaki.

Every table is equipped with a tabletop grill, plates, saucers & assorted of sauces and seasonings.
Printed instructions of how to cook Okonomiyaki and Yakisoba, as well as what sauce to pair with your food.
Cooking oil, sauces and pepper.
The DIY kit of Okonomiyaki – batter mixture, dried seaweed and bonito flakes.
The cooking process is pretty simple (as least for me, hehe :P). Heat the oil, mix the batter until well combined then poured onto the griddle. Then it’s just a matter of waiting for it to cook before brushing on the sauce and garnishing as desired.
Ta ta, my first Okonomiyaki, with extra grilled meat on top which we got from the buffet spread. \(^▽^)/
It was delicious, the batter mixture was nicely seasoned, with crusty outer and cabbage still remained crunchy. The dressings and toppings certainly enhanced the flavour by a few notches.
Thinly cut meat included beef, pork and chicken, which refilled rather frequently. The lowest level were yellow noodles, bean sprouts and shredded cabbage, ingredients for DIY Yakisoba.
My small portion of Yakisoba, tasted not bad at all but could be better with more seasoning. ^ω^
Very limited hot food selection.
Prawn Tempura and Karaage.
Pork Soft Bone Soup was good.
Italian Meatballs (with normal fish balls >_<“), Pork & Onion Stir Fried, Beef Stew and Braised Saba. These dishes didn’t quite live up to our expectation because the food didn’t taste like they were prepared by Japanese chef as per advertised.
Oden in dashi broth, but the quintessential Daikon was missing here. T.T
The Japanese Curry Rice & Miso Soup was overwhelming with spices.
The Japanese curry had an overwhelming taste of spices which I don’t really appreciate that.
Salad bar and Udon cooking station – I tried all the food, except these. (≧▽≦)
Beverage options – Iced lemon Tea, Iced Oolong Tea, Iced Green Tea, and hot coffee.
Dessert – Nestle ice cream, 3 types of petits fours (another flavour I didn’t manage to get due to it wasn’t replenish until I left but I saw my “neighbour” got it) and watermelon.
♥Verdict: We left the restaurant smell like BBQ meat because there’s no proper ventilation in the restaurant. I basically tried all the food from the buffet spread (except salad and Udon) and nothing really tickled my fancy. Let me forewarn you that you might be up for disappointments if your’re expecting some quality Japanese dishes from Japanese chef. But if you want to experience the cook-it-yourself Okonomiyaki, this place can definitely fulfill your curiosity. Do you feel the food served worth the price charged? Let me know your opinion!

I see you’ve come into my part of town. So, I take it that you didn’t find any food on the buffet line worthy….and the only worthwhile item was the okonomiyaki and maybe yakisoba? 😉 At RM49 it’s probably still worth it since you can cook/eat all the meats you want like teppanyaki but I’ve seen website photos showing the price at RM69. Was yours a promo price? 😉
Kris, this definitely a rare occasion that we ventured to Cheras area because hubby and I wanted to try out the DIY Okonomiyaki. I inquired the price via their FB (PM) and the promo code (10% discount) was dicovered from the Youtube video that we watched.
When i called to enquire rm69 was for the seafood teppanyaki version…rm 49 is for teppanyaki meat n yaki soba….rm29 for just the lunch without okonomiyaki….
Was gonna try out this place but after ur review and the time limit of 1hour for lunch and 80min for teppanyaki… I’m not so sure anymore 😅
Racehl, they didn’t give me option of the seafood Teppanyaki when I made inquiry, perhaps is new added and there was no time limited was informed too. Good that you can have a clear view of what’s their offering and make decision accordingly but for the sake of trying the DIY Okonomiyaki, you still have consider to give this place a try. 🙂
