Nasi Ayam Hainan Chee Meng @ Old Klang Road
The fall of the once great Chicken Rice~
There was one weekend Sam craved for chicken rice again (she addicted to this delicacy since she tried THIS) and hubby suggested that we should try Nasi Ayam Hainan Chee Meng which is one of his favourite lunch spots when he worked at that area a few years ago.
The restaurant with typical kopitiam setting was quite vacant when we arrived on lunch time. A little about Nasi Ayam Hainan Chee Meng – Established in 1965 as a chicken rice and porridge stall setted up along Old Klang Road, Nasi Ayam Hainan Chee Meng is now a chain of Halal chicken rice shops in Klang Valley.
Hainanese Coffee (RM4.50), Iced Jasmine Tea (RM3.00) & Calamansi Juice with Sour Plum (RM7.50)
Other than chicken rice (both steamed and roasted), the menu also included good selections of appetizers (Mango Salad, Fried Wonton & etc), soups (Fish Ball Soup, Tom Yum & etc) and stir fried dishes (sweet and Sour Chicken, Sambal Prawn, Fried Squid, Asam Fish Fillet, Prawn Omelet, Steamed Beancurd & more).
Chicken Breast+ Rice (RM10.00), Chicken Drumstick+ Rice (RM11.00) & Drumstick (RM8.50)
We got ourselves a portion of steamed chicken drumstick and it was adequately tender and smooth. The chicken was served with soy sauce and chunks of cucumber.
But to our dismay, the roasted chicken didn’t quite live up to our expectation. The roasted skin was averagely tasty but the meat was rather bland tasting, we had to have it with the soy sauce and chili sauce to enhance the flavour a bit. By the way, the chili sauce is good, it packs a nice fiery punch with pleasant hint of acidic. The rice also far from being impressive and lack of chicken flavour you’d expect in chicken rice.
Kailan with Oyster Sauce (Small – RM12.00)
Verdict: I really had high expectation on the chicken rice as hubby raved about how good it was a few years back. As far as the food was concerned, the chicken rice was just alright and it would be hard to be convinced for a revisit.

The chicken does not seem to be nicely sliced. If the taste is just alright, then I also won’t return.
PH, the food quality certainly didn’t meet my expectation and there is a pretty good chicken rice near my house, I can fix my craving there!
Why are 3 portions of chicken not served individually with the rice? I agree that they seem to have ‘butchered’ the chicken! O_o I’ve yet to come across halal chicken rice that’s good unfortunately.
Kris, hmmm….. I also don’t know but we only had 2 portion that came with rice, another portion is ala carte chicken only.
i think i tried the branch at bukit bintang back in the late 1990s, and it was ok then! 🙂

I thought the roasted chicken looked good but didn;t live up to your expectation. I ate there few times when I lived in Taman Desa over 10 years ago. It was always crowded and parking used to be limited there.
