Syarikat Hor Kee @ Taman Universiti, SS3, P.J
Tucked in the lively neighborhood of Taman Universiti at SS3, Petaling Jaya, Syarikat Hor Kee is a modern Kopitiam-style eatery that has quickly become a hotspot for comforting local favorites especially its signature Kai Si Hor Fun (KSHF – Shredded Chicken Rice Noodles). As a fan of this Ipoh must have delicacy, I was intrigued to check out this place.
The first thing I noticed was the crowd — Hor Kee is clearly a local favorite and the restaurant was full house with waiting customers on my three visits. The interior is clean and bright, with patterned floor tiles and simple furnishings. Despite the busy service, the staff kept things moving efficiently, which made the dining experience pleasant even at peak hour.
Hor Kee’s menu blends good variety of local flavors and western food which include the signature KSHF, Hakka Noodles, Curry Noodles (dry and soup), Steamed Chicken Rice , Hainanese Chicken Chop, Kaya Butter Toast, assorted sandwiches, Big Breakfast, Black Pepper Chicken Chop, Mushroom Olio, Seafood Marinara Pasta, Chicken Burger and Cheesy Tomato Crispy Chicken Rice. Also in the menu are snacks (Prawn Wonton Soup, Fried Pork Fritter, French Fries & etc) and dessert Tong Sui (Chinese sweet soup). The beverage list is quite interesting with not only the usual local favourites such as coffee, Milo, Milk Tea and Cham, but also some Hong Kong Cha Chan Teng classics like Salted Plus 7Up, Snow White Coffee, White Angel and Dark Angel.
Coffee Floating (Cold – RM8.90)
Hor Kee Coffee (Cold – RM4.80)
Salted Plus 7Up (RM8.90)
Signature Golden Hor Fun Soup (RM15.90)
The noodles came in a compelling milky broth with orangey prawn oil that was both rich and fragrant. Topped with tender chunks of poached chicken and fried shallots, together with smooth slippery Hor Fun (rice noodles), it’s something light yet deeply satisfying.
Nyonya Curry Noodle Soup (RM15.90)
For something bolder, the curry mee delivered. The broth was fiery red and aromatic, though a bit oily but it carried just the right amount of spice and creaminess. With toppings like bean curd puffs, poached chicken fried bean curd sheets and fried Wontons, every bite was layered with flavors that kept you going back for more.
Hor Kee Dry Noodle (RM15.90)
This is my all time comfort food that came with your choice of noodles tossed in soy-based sauce, topped with savoury minced meat, fried bean curd sheets, fried fish paste and a side of meat balls soup.
Hainanese Chicken Chop Rice (RM16.90)
The fried chicken chop sat in a pool of thick brown gravy, served with sweet corn, peas, and carrots. The fried chicken was crispy on the outside but the batter was lightly thicker, the flesh was tender and succulent. The rice was topped with fried egg and sausage completed the plate, making it hearty and filling meal.
Porky Bacon Scrambled Egg (RM15.90)
Very decent western style breakfast platter.
Hor Kee Milky Peach Gum Sweet Soup (RM8.90)
Nourishing and refreshing chilled dessert.
Verdict: Syarikat Hor Kee is the kind of place you’ll find yourself returning to whenever the craving for comfort food hits. If you’re looking for a casual, hearty, and reasonably priced meals, you know where to head to.
