Tingkap Cafe @ PJ Old Town

This was our first stop on that Sunday before we proceeded to our second round of makan-makan at PJ Old Town Hawker Centre

Randomly found this cafe online and decided to give it a try based on the good rating on Google Review. The place was buzzing with activities, breakfast crowd busy tucking into their food, paying queue at the cashier and servers were running in and out of the kitchen.

The cafe has a bright white theme with plenty of hanging light bulbs. Wooden window frames decorated the walls, echoing the name of the cafe. There are some vintage household items are placed here and there to enhance the old school vibe.

Customer can have themselves to get these pre-packed food on the trays and proceed to payment. There are assorted of local fares such as Nasi Lemak, Nasi Dagang, Nasi Kerabu, Fried Meehoon, as well as wide variety of local kuih on the display.

Small selection of other food and beverages  on the menu.

Western dessert in form of sliced cakes and muffins are available too.

Iced Coffee (RM3.60)

Roti Jala Kari Ayam (RM5.50)

Roti Jala is something that I would certainly order if I see it in the menu. Tingkap Cafe version was decent and I’m happy to find big chunks of potatoes and chicken in that bowl of curry.

Nasi Kerabu Ayam Bakar (RM7.50)

All the condiments such as the mixed herbs, roasted chicken, coconut fish flakes and Sambal are packed individually in plastic bag. Served with blue-tinged rice, the multitude of flavours and textures after mixing everything up together are really enjoyable. The roasted chicken was a bit dry and I would have hoped for more Sambal to go with the rice.

Nasi Berlauk Gulai Ikan (RM7.50)

The flavour of this luscious and creamy Gulai Ikan Tonggol was mind-blowing, awesomely tasty with bursting flavour from the spices. The small dollop of Sambal brought a little (yeah, just a little and I hope there’s more ( ˘▾˘)~) heat to the palate and the spiciness of the Gulai Ikan was mild.

Eventually their food are got from different vendors. Also please be reminded that these pre-packed food was in room temperature condition, if you like your food served hot, you might consider order food from the menu only.

Live Satay grilling station at the entrance looked enticing.

Verdict: Overall the food at Tingkap Cafe was fairly good. I like the wallet friendly price tag and the wide variety of food available but please come here earlier as some food (eg: the local kuih) might run out earlier.
