Rocku Yakiniku @ 1 Utama
To be honest, it wasn’t a really pleasant experience at Rocku Yakiniku. But please don’t misunderstanding my conclusion, there is no faults on the food, environment or service, just that I’m not used to dine in a rush. The 100 minutes time limit for the Eat-All-You-Can Japanese charcoal grill buffet definitely not something I fond of.

Being my first visit to Rocku Yakiniku at 1 Utama Shopping Centre, I was pretty impressed by its cool and artsy interior. Funky graffiti adorning the concrete brick wall on one side and another side is wallpapered with Japanese manga pages. The dining area is dimly lit with long communal tables placed at the center and casual bench seats at both sides.
Choices of beverage are quite extensive, there are soft drinks, green tea, beer, draft beer and sake however the beverages in not included in the buffet price.
While waiting for the grill to be set up, we had some cooked dishes at the buffet counters. Choices was quite limited if compared to what I’ve seen in other blogs on offerings at Pavilion outlet.
Vegetables and mushrooms to grill along with your meat.
There are three dipping sauces available here: ponzu, spicy miso and chili sauce. I personally prefer the spicy miso sauce which goes really well with both meats and seafood. I spread the sauce on my vegetables when grilling too! 😛
The charcoal grills (real charcoals are used) are specially designed with suction system is built around the grill instead of at the top. The ventilation in the restaurant was in top notch, I walked out without any unpleasant smell on my hair or clothes. Certainly extra brownie point for this.
Pork lard to grease the wire mesh grill before you start grilling the foods.
You will be given a ordering chit consists of the above meats, seafood, vegetables and side orders. Just ticks whatever you want and pass to the waiter, your order will be served to table.
Assorted of meats (chicken, pork & beef)
Platter of seafood includes butter fish, salmon, prawn, scallop, squid and mussel.
The selections are sufficient enough to please BBQ lover. The quality of the meat and seafood was great and the marinade was minimal to allow diners savor the original flavor of the ingredients.
The thinly sliced meats are easy to be cooked but the shell seafood such as mussels and scallops need more time. So we gave up on ordering the seafood and focused on meat slices only. I like they use the real charcoals instead of gas/electrical grill as all the ingredients are well infused with beautiful smoky flavor.
Green Tea (RM3.00/jug)
Another selling point of Rocku Yakiniku is their concept of “restaurantainment”, which means a combination of dining + live music performances and various other entertainment events. We were well entertained by the magic show and singing performance throughout our dinner.
Verdict: Food and environment was great, but our the serving of our repeat orders was a bit slow hence we need to gobble down our meat in last few minutes. >_< I also saw a group of 4 persons sharing a grilling pit which I think 100 minutes definitely not sufficient for the session.
