The Enclave @ Damansara Kim, P.J

No more Monday Blues when my buddies invited me for Happy Hour session after work! This round we had our meetup at The Enclave, a neighbourhood gastrobar located at Damansara Kim, Petaling Jaya. Parking was ample if compared with other days because I saw a few restaurants were closed on Monday.

Stirring up a rustic interior with bare brick walls, sturdy wooden furniture and bar counter, the place is spacious with hanging lights that impart a dim yellowish hue to it.

The bar is not decorated with a huge deal of flair but I took quite a good few minutes admiring those nostalgic black and white photos of our country and its people displayed on the wall. The ambiance is simple but cozy and soothing for a relax unwind session with beer and gastro bites or even a dinner.

Al-fresco dining area at the facade.

The beverage menu filled with good selection of wines, cocktails, mocktails, beers, Vodka, Whisky, Rum, shooters and some non-alcohol drink such as soft drinks, juices, coffee and tea.

The food menu on the other hand isn’t exceptionally extensive but it covers some of the essential items from salads, pastas, burgers, Asian rice dishes, mains and nibbles.

Enclave Sangria (RM25.00), Somersby Apple Cider (RM20.00),  Ice Lemon Tea (RM7.00),  Royal Punch (RM20.00) & Orange Juice (RM10.00)

Cutlets – Fish/Lamb (RM24.00/6pcs)

We got ourselves a portion with both fish and lamb. Deep fried to a beautiful golden brown, the cutlets had a nice crispy outer with spicy savoury filling of minced meat, onions, pepper and herbs. Great snack to pair with beer.

Korean Garlic Chicken (RM20.00)

We were expecting fried chicken coated with Korean spicy sauce but we got this arrived on our table. Don’t get me wrong, this version was not bad at all. Bite size boneless chicken covered with sticky sweet savoury sauce with mild spiciness, another nibbles that goes well with beer.

Mutton Varuval (RM24.00)

You may notice there are many lamb dishes being featured in their menu and it obviously prove that cooking lamb is their forte especially South Indian style. Prepared with family’s recipe, the Mutton Varuval definitely hitting the right notes for flavours and fragrance. The meat and onion were richly infused with robust taste of various spices and herbs including fennel seeds, cumin seeds, ginger, garlic and others. It is served with rice or toast.

For a more substantial meal, we had a few dishes to be shared among us as our dinner.

Enclave Lamb Pasta (RM24.00)

We love lamb so much so we also ordered this spicy lamb pasta featuring diced lamb tossed in their special sauce with sprinkles of Parmesan cheese and chili flakes. It was a bud tickling and appetizing dish I would say. For a person who can resist carbo for dinner like myself, I found it tough to stop at one bite. I like the gentle chili heat that gradually kick in. The appearance might be unpretentious but the the flavours shout wholesomeness.

Lamb Shawarma (RM24.00)

Another lamb dish we had was this spicy grilled lamb (Shawarma) and fresh lettuce wrapped in tortilla bread, served with fries, coleslaw and dipping. One can have the chicken version (RM22.00) if you not a fan of lamb.

Spicy Mutton Fried Rice (RM24.00)

This was the fried rice that raved by my friend which she tried at their Bangsar outlet and she insisted to order it for us. The fried rice was indeed very well executed, fluffy grains flavoured with spicy Lamb Varural and accompanied by onion, carrot, green peas and corns.

Classic Chicken Burger (RM22.00)

Chicken Carbonara (RM20.00)

Non-spicy dish such as chicken burger and chicken carbonara were worth a try too. Portion wise, the chicken burger with grilled chicken thigh and side of fries and coleslaw was pretty filling.

Verdict: To be honest, I didn’t have high expectation on the food served at a gastrobar but surprising some of the dishes we had were above average especially the lamb dishes. Try this place out if you are lamb lover, even though you are not a drinker, you still can have a fairly hearty dinner here.
